About Us

At Willverines, we believe every child deserves the opportunity to feel safe, be seen, and be supported—especially when life feels uncertain.

Founded by Attorney William Edwards and operated by the William.law Foundation, our network of after-school programs and childcare centers is dedicated to nurturing the whole child—emotionally, socially, academically, and creatively.

Our mission is clear: to empower youth from vulnerable communities by providing trauma-informed care, immersive STEM and AI learning opportunities, and a deep commitment to their emotional and educational development.

Why We Exist

Willverines was created as a direct response to a critical need. Many of the children we serve are facing unimaginable challenges—witnessing domestic violence, experiencing parental divorce, dealing with homelessness or poverty, or being vulnerable to gang involvement.

These children often fall through the cracks because their circumstances don’t trigger intervention from child protective services or mental health agencies.

Our programs are uniquely designed to support these youth and their families, offering a safe and nurturing environment where children can begin to heal, grow, and thrive. We do this by operating trauma informed child care and school-age sites across 10 California counties—each one strategically located in high-need areas.

What We Do

Afterschool Programs (Ages 5–12)
Operating at community churches and on elementary school campuses in California, our school-age program is rapidly growing towards serving nearly 1,100 students.

Open Monday through Friday from school dismissal until 7 p.m., our afterschool programs offer more than just academic support. They are vibrant, engaging, and designed to teach children how to define their goals, believe in themselves, and build confidence—even in the face of adversity.

Each site offers a structured curriculum that blends academic reinforcement with life skills, leadership development, and cutting-edge enrichment. Our focus on STEM and Artificial Intelligence prepares students for the future by introducing them to coding, robotics, and digital literacy in a fun and interactive way. By encouraging curiosity and problem-solving, we not only close learning gaps but open doors to possibility.

Toddler Program (Ages 2–5)
Our toddler program serves children and emphasizes exploration, self-expression, and developmental milestones through a Second Step curriculum that encourages creativity and confidence in young children.

Our nurturing staff uses real-life experiences to foster emotional security, early literacy, and age-appropriate socialization.

The center operates from 6:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. and has availability for families of all income levels. Under contract with the state, qualified families may even receive child care for free, per state eligibility guidelines.

How We Empower Children

Children enrolled in Willverines programs are encouraged to dream bigger and reach higher through our six tenets of empowerment:

1. Define your goals
2. Trust your potential
3. Develop your plan
4. Be committed
5. Don’t give up
6. Celebrate progress

Through structured lessons, play-based learning, and frequent one-on-one mentorship, we provide children with the tools to build resilience and develop lasting confidence.

Each child undergoes an initial emotional and academic assessment, and our team works with families to develop personalized support plans, updated through monthly assessments and shared through progress reports and conferences.

Homework assistance is just the beginning. With access to platforms like Tutor.com and a highly trained teaching staff, children benefit from individualized academic support tailored to their learning styles.

We integrate arts, music, and science into every week, with special STEAM-focused days featuring hands-on experiments, coding projects, AI-based games, and guest speakers from fields like engineering, visual arts, and music production.

These experiences expose children to professional role models and real-world applications of classroom learning—bridging the gap between inspiration and aspiration.

Parent and Community Involvement

We believe transformation starts at home, which is why parent engagement is at the heart of our approach.

Parents participate in the enrollment assessment, have access to an open-door policy, and are invited to join their children on field trips, attend teacher conferences, and join our Parent Advisory Committee.

We also connect families to vital wraparound services—including housing support, counseling, job training, and food assistance—because when parents thrive, children do too.

Our Team and Values
All staff undergo Department of Justice background checks and health and safety training. Teachers and site directors are credentialed and passionate about trauma-informed practices, early childhood development, and community empowerment.

At Willverines, we don’t just serve children—we walk with them on a journey of healing, discovery, and growth. Our name reflects our spirit: strong, resilient, and determined to help children thrive no matter what their starting point may be.
